A poignant love story that traverses the globe and showcases the ability of music to evoke memories is coming to Bath, featuring the timeless melodies of Frank Sinatra.
“In Other Words,” a play that has garnered international acclaim for its exploration of memory, music, and the enduring power of love, will grace the stage at the Theatre Royal from Thursday, April 17 to Saturday, April 19. The production offers a touching journey through the 50-year bond of a couple, Jane and Arthur, from their first meeting to the challenges of dementia, all set to the evocative soundtrack of Sinatra classics. Since its debut in London in 2017, the play has captivated audiences across four continents, with over 300,000 people having experienced its moving narrative.
Crafted by Matthew Seager and directed by Andy Routledge, the show features Lydia White, known for her portrayal of Miss Honey in the West End production of Matilda, in the role of Jane, alongside Seager, who reprises his original performance as Arthur.

The UK tour of “In Other Words” is a collaboration with Music for Dementia, a campaign by The Utley Foundation that advocates for the use of music in dementia care. The initiative provides grants, raises awareness, and supports creative projects that harness the power of music to connect with individuals living with the condition.
Matthew Seager expressed, “Working on ‘In Other Words’ as a writer and performer continues to provide the most fulfilling and formative experiences of my career. It speaks to the universality of the play’s themes that it resonates so broadly. It is beyond thrilling to now be bringing it to such a wide audience around the UK, especially in conjunction with house theatre and Music for Dementia. That they consider this a valuable piece of work is a source of immense pride for us.”
Sarah Metcalfe, managing director of the Utley Foundation and Music for Dementia, commented, “It addresses an important topic with accuracy and sensitivity, showing the heartbreak of dementia but also flashes of hope in the power of music and human connection.”
The play marks the first major project by TBC Productions, a new company co-founded by Seager and producer Tom Dixon, focusing on developing original writing that creates social and cultural impact.
From earning a string of five-star reviews in the UK and abroad to winning multiple awards for its international adaptations, “In Other Words” has resonated with audiences worldwide. Performance tickets at Bath Theatre Royal are priced at £21, with concessions available for under 16s and students at £13.
