Heads Up Somerset Returns with New Charity Hike to Support Mental Health

Mental health challenges affect one in six adults in Somerset, yet services remain underfunded and stretched thin. Recognising this pressing need, Heads Up Somerset is once again rallying the community to support those struggling through an inspiring fundraising event.

Following the remarkable success of last year’s Mental Health Hike, which raised over £17,000, the charity is hosting a new hike this year on Sunday, May 25. Participants will embark on a 23-mile trek from Loxton to Wookey Hole, demonstrating solidarity and raising much-needed funds to support mental health services.

The hike is organised by Chris Young of Wolf Barbers and Neil Winterson from Wells Men’s Walking & Talking Group. Last year’s route, from Uphill to Wells Cathedral, brought the community together and contributed significantly to the charity’s efforts. This year, the hike aligns with the theme of Mental Health Awareness Week: Community. Michelle Payne, Heads Up Operations Manager, emphasises the importance of connection, saying, “We thrive when we have strong connections with other people and supportive communities that remind us we are not alone.”

Although registration for this year’s hike is now closed, supporters can join the after-party at The Wookey Hole Inn starting at 5pm. The event will feature live music, a silent auction, and a raffle, offering plenty of ways to contribute to the cause while celebrating the hikers’ efforts.
