Shepton Mallet Prison, one of England’s oldest and most notorious prisons, has long been a hotspot for reported supernatural activity. However, recent footage captured by paranormal investigator Tony Ferguson suggests something far stranger may be lurking within its walls.
Tony, who explores haunted locations across the UK and shares his findings on TikTok, returned to Shepton Mallet with a group of both skeptics and believers for a seance in the prison’s chapel. During the gathering, Tony described a palpable shift in the atmosphere: “The room grew heavy, and we felt an energy shift.” Positioned on the balcony with fellow investigator Bev, they sensed something was about to happen. Tony recalled it as “the calm before the storm.”
In video footage Tony shared on social media, a mysterious figure is seen moving across the lower part of the screen. But rather than the typical ghostly apparition, many viewers spotted something altogether different: an alien entity resembling the stereotypical “Gray Alien.”

“Viewers reached out in shock, saying what we captured looked more like a Gray Alien than a ghost,” Tony said. “The shriek we heard also sounded otherworldly. On closer inspection, the figure appears to have a small, thin body with a large round head and big dark eyes.”
The figure emerges about halfway through the video, unmistakably featuring a bulbous head and wide eyes, classic traits associated with extraterrestrials. Tony remains intrigued but cautious: “As an investigator, I’m on the fence. But there’s undeniably something there I can’t explain.”
Shepton Mallet Prison has a rich and grim history. First housing inmates in 1625, it operated for over three centuries before closing in 1930. It was then handed over to the British military during World War Two. The prison reopened as a civilian facility in 1966 and became a Category C Male Lifers prison in 2001 — housing lower-risk inmates convicted of serious crimes. Finally decommissioned in 2013, the site now serves as a tourist attraction, offering escape rooms and haunted tours.
This latest encounter adds a chilling new chapter to Shepton Mallet’s haunted legacy, raising unsettling questions about what truly resides beyond the veil.
