A man assaulted with a hammer during a confrontation with two masked cyclists in Melksham has been released from hospital, police have confirmed.
The attack occurred just before midnight on Friday, October 17, when the victim encountered two males dressed in black riding bicycles along Melksham High Street. During the altercation, one of the individuals struck the man with a hammer.
Emergency services were called to the scene around 12:04 a.m. on Saturday, October 18. The victim was transported to the hospital and has since been discharged with non-life-threatening injuries. He is currently recovering at home.

Detective Chief Inspector Penny Andrews addressed community concerns, stating, “We understand the distress caused by this incident and the significant police presence in the town. However, we believe this was an isolated event with no wider threat to the public.”
She further thanked witnesses who have come forward to aid the investigation and appealed for additional information, particularly footage capturing two men in dark clothing cycling around the town center shortly before the attack.
