GWR Staff Injured in Assault at Bath Spa Station on Easter Sunday

Two Great Western Railway (GWR) staff members suffered serious injuries, including fractured bones and bruising, after being assaulted at Bath Spa train station on Easter Sunday. The incident occurred around 11:22 pm on April 5 while the staff were assisting passengers affected by a cancelled train service.

The attack took place as the employees were helping customers arrange onward travel following widespread disruption caused by fatalities elsewhere on the rail network. One staff member sustained fractures to the elbow, wrist, and ribs, while the other suffered facial bruising, according to GWR.

British Transport Police responded promptly to reports of the altercation. They have identified three men in connection with the incident, and these individuals are expected to be interviewed in due course.

James Adeshiyan, Head of Stations at Great Western Railway, condemned the attack as “completely unacceptable.” He emphasized that the injured colleagues were simply doing their jobs to assist customers late on Easter Sunday and expressed full support for the police investigation.

“We urge anyone who witnessed the assault or has information to come forward to help the police,” Adeshiyan stated. The British Transport Police encourage witnesses to contact them by texting 61016 with reference number 642 of April 5.

As investigations continue, GWR is supporting its injured staff members and wishing them a swift recovery, highlighting the importance of respect and safety for frontline workers.
