Glastonbury’s town hall lift continues to cause inconvenience as repair delays persist, leaving councillors and visitors, especially the elderly, with no choice but to climb the stairs. At a recent Glastonbury Town Council meeting, concerns were raised over the ongoing breakdown of the lift, particularly by the Glastonbury Antiquarian Society, whose elderly members face difficulties accessing the upper floors for their meetings.
Speaking at the meeting, town clerk Conor Ogilvie-Davidson expressed frustration over the repeated delays in repairing the lift, attributing the latest setback to the maintenance company’s staffing issues. Despite the council agreeing to a quotation for the repairs, this marks the fourth time in recent months that the lift has required fixing, with no clear timeline for its restoration to full functionality.
Councillor Lokabee Lokabandhu highlighted the payment made for the repairs back in February, prompting the council to question the inefficiency in resolving the lift’s recurring faults. Meanwhile, Councillor Jon Cousins, drawing from the lift’s troubled history, proposed the consideration of installing a different lift altogether, emphasizing the persistent issues faced since its installation.
