Glastonbury Volunteers Find Love Amid the Music and Magic

Charlie Hothersall-Thomas, 32, and Ruby Robinson, 25, share a love story born from the vibrant atmosphere of Glastonbury Festival. The couple first crossed paths while volunteering with Oxfam at the 2022 festival — a meeting Charlie admits he barely remembers amid a crowd of thousands, but one Ruby fondly recalls.

Their connection deepened at Reading Festival, where Charlie finally gathered the courage to invite Ruby to enjoy some sets together. Now happily living in Bath, they continue to volunteer at festivals, returning this year to Glastonbury side by side.

“We truly love the festival scene,” says Charlie, who balances his cybersecurity career with volunteering. “Festivals have been a cornerstone of our relationship — not just where we met, but what continues to bring us closer, year after year.”

Beyond their bond, the couple has formed lasting friendships through stewarding. “We’ve made friends that have become like family, joining us on holidays, weddings, and regular social events,” Charlie adds. “Volunteering isn’t just about shifts; it’s about making a difference, supporting people, and raising money for a cause we care about.”

Preparing once again at Worthy Farm, Ruby and Charlie eagerly await performances from music legends like Rod Stewart, Neil Young, and Alanis Morissette. Ruby, a civil servant, is especially excited to see Olivia Rodrigo on the Pyramid Stage and the Red Rum Club on the Left Field stage.

When asked about romantic spots on-site, Ruby smiles, “Glastonbury has so many charming little corners perfect for a first date.” Charlie agrees wholeheartedly: “Love is everywhere here. Every corner feels magical.”

Though Glastonbury will take a ‘fallow year’ in 2026, the couple plans to continue their volunteer journey at festivals like the Isle of Wight or Download Festival. As for a wedding at Glastonbury? Charlie laughs, “We’re not engaged yet, but a wedding during the fallow years could be a wonderful idea.”

While next year’s hiatus pauses Glastonbury, Oxfam’s festival volunteering opportunities continue, offering others the chance to connect with music, community, and perhaps even love.

This year’s Glastonbury Festival runs from Wednesday, June 25 to Sunday, June 29 at the iconic Worthy Farm.
