Glastonbury Veteran Participates in Remembrance Sunday March at Cenotaph

A Glastonbury veteran with 30 years of service in the Royal Air Force is set to participate in the annual Remembrance Sunday march at the Cenotaph in London. Ray Tillbrook, who retired from the RAF in 2005, is marching to honor the memory of his wife, father, and father-in-law.

Ray met his wife, Yvonne “Bonnie” Tillbrook, in 1989 during his RAF service, and the two were married that same year in an RAF church at RAF Locking. Bonnie, who worked as a Telephone Supervisor and Communications Manager for the Ministry of Defence, was also dedicated to fundraising for veterans' causes in the local community for two decades.

Sadly, Bonnie passed away earlier this year, and Ray will be marching in her memory. Both Ray’s father and father-in-law were veterans, with his father serving during World War II and taking him to witness the National Service of Remembrance at the Cenotaph in the 1950s.

Ray will be joined by approximately 50 other veterans and the Somerset branch of SSAFA (Soldiers', Sailors', and Airmen’s Families Association), a charity that supports individuals in the armed forces, veterans, and their families. SSAFA provides various forms of support, including an online platform and a helpline for urgent assistance.

Remembrance Sunday is scheduled for this weekend on November 10th.
