Glastonbury Venue Responds to New Year’s Eve Incident Amid Spiking Claims

Following reports of several people being allegedly spiked during a New Year’s Eve event, The Assembly Rooms in Glastonbury has issued a statement addressing the situation.

In the early hours of January 1, multiple attendees of the event held at The Assembly Rooms on Glastonbury High Street were hospitalized after suspected exposure to a harmful substance. Avon & Somerset Police arrested one individual on suspicion of administering a noxious substance; the person has since been released on bail.

The Assembly Rooms updated its Facebook page, revealing that four people were found unconscious inside the venue around 1 a.m., prompting an immediate call to emergency medical services. One person was discovered near the bar, with three others located in the hallway. Despite investigations, the exact nature of the substance involved remains unidentified.

Importantly, the venue highlighted an incident where an individual was distributing THC derivatives, reportedly in the form of liquid tinctures and oils. The Assembly Rooms strongly condemned this action, emphasizing concerns over health and safety, legality, and the integrity of their licensed and community-focused establishment.

“It is unacceptable and irresponsible to offer substances like THC without clear consent or knowledge of dosage or contents,” the statement read. “Our priority is the well-being of our patrons and the safe operation of our events.”

While guests reported receiving THC products, the venue firmly stated there was no evidence to suggest people were spiked against their will. Paramedics relayed observations of an individual distributing substances to police, resulting in the arrest of a person in the venue’s foyer.

All four individuals hospitalized have since been discharged. The Assembly Rooms reaffirmed its commitment to providing a safe environment and called for respect from attendees to prevent such incidents from threatening patrons' safety and the venue’s future.

“We urge everyone to act responsibly and avoid risking their own safety or jeopardizing the experience and well-being of others,” the venue concluded.
