Glastonbury Venue Responds to New Year’s Eve Incident Amid Spiking Allegations

A Glastonbury venue has issued a statement following reports of multiple attendees falling ill during a New Year’s Eve event amid suspicions of spiking.

In the early hours of January 1, four people were found unconscious at The Assembly Rooms on Glastonbury High Street and were promptly attended to by emergency services. Although they were taken to hospital, all have since been discharged.

Avon & Somerset Police arrested one individual on suspicion of administering a noxious substance; the person has since been released on bail.

In a detailed Facebook update, The Assembly Rooms clarified that while people were offered THC products—specifically liquid tinctures and oils—there is no evidence that anyone was spiked without their knowledge or consent. The venue emphasized its strong stance against the distribution of illegal substances on the premises, highlighting concerns for the health and safety of its patrons.

The venue’s statement read: “The Assembly Rooms does not condone giving out substances like THC, particularly when dosages are unknown and the content is unregulated. We are a licensed premises and a registered community benefit society, committed to providing a safe environment.”

The Assembly Rooms stressed that although there were reports of individuals distributing THC, the notion of spiking—administering substances unknowingly—has not been substantiated to their knowledge.

The venue concluded by urging attendees to prioritize safety, refrain from putting others at risk, and respect the community by avoiding illegal activities that could jeopardize both personal wellbeing and the future of the venue.
