Glastonbury is set to see a significant boost in police patrols aimed at tackling ongoing anti-social behaviour in the town centre. Sarah Dyke, the MP for Glastonbury and Somerton, has called for a united community effort marked by “compassion and collaboration” to address these challenges.
The issue has been attributed to a small group causing disturbances, prompting Ms Dyke to convene a business roundtable last Friday. Over 30 local business owners participated alongside representatives from Avon and Somerset Police and Crime Commissioner Clare Moody, local Sergeant Simon Lancey, members of the Glastonbury Town Council, and the Chamber of Commerce.
At the meeting, Avon and Somerset police confirmed the implementation of the Neighbourhood Policing Guarantee, which will deploy nine additional officers to increase visible patrols in Glastonbury. This initiative aims to restore safety and confidence among local businesses and residents alike.

Ms Dyke expressed her gratitude to the town’s business community for their proactive engagement, stating, “Glastonbury is a unique and vibrant community known for its iconic landmarks, festivals, and thriving town centre. While a few individuals have caused issues, this does not define our town.”
In addition to increased police presence, Ms Dyke has urged Somerset Council to reinstate a Public Space Protection Order. She also plans to take urgent action on several key recommendations from the meeting to ensure tangible improvements.
Recognizing that the root causes of anti-social behaviour extend beyond policing, Ms Dyke advocates for a holistic approach. This includes addressing drug and alcohol abuse, mental health challenges, housing issues, and supporting local charities that assist vulnerable individuals.
The MP has committed to ongoing collaboration with stakeholders, including the town council, police, and community organisations, to develop long-term, sustainable solutions ensuring everyone in Glastonbury feels safe and secure about the town’s future.
