As the Glastonbury Festival approaches, the town is experiencing a troubling increase in anti-social behaviour, severely impacting residents, tourists, and local businesses alike.
Authorities have been actively addressing the situation. Recently, the grounds of St John the Baptist Church were closed due to repeated incidents involving excessive drinking, drug use, fights, and disturbances. One individual has been banned from the church property for six months as part of ongoing efforts to restore order. Several arrests have also been made in connection with these disturbances.
Sarah Dyke, Member of Parliament for Glastonbury, expressed her concern: “It’s very concerning for Glastonbury residents to hear about the recent arrests related to anti-social behaviour. No one should feel unsafe or vulnerable in and around the town. I have spoken to local police officers and know they are working diligently to protect everyone’s safety. I welcome Avon and Somerset Police’s swift response and the planned increase in patrols and police visibility over the coming weeks in the town centre.”

Dyke highlighted the importance of maintaining a safe environment as the festival and summer months approach. “Tourism is vital for our local economy. Keeping our streets safe enables Glastonbury’s positive attractions to shine,” she added.
A spokesperson for St John the Baptist Church made a statement regarding the measures taken: “A Community Protection Notice has been issued to an individual whose repeated anti-social behaviour has disrupted our community. Consequently, they are banned from entering the church and churchyard for six months. This action underscores our commitment to keeping St John’s a welcoming, respectful, and safe space for everyone. We thank all community members who support and care for these shared spaces. Together, we can build a stronger and safer community.”
Avon and Somerset Police also released a statement: “Our Neighbourhood Policing Team regularly patrols the area and collaborates with the council, schools, and other organisations to reduce anti-social behaviour. Although reports have increased recently, we remain committed to making Glastonbury a safe place for residents, workers, and visitors alike.”
