Glastonbury FOMO: Missing Out on the Festival Buzz

Every year, as Glastonbury approaches, the excitement among festival-goers reaches a fever pitch. For those of us without tickets, however, it’s a season of serious FOMO—fear of missing out. Throughout winter, we reassure ourselves that it’s okay not to go: the crowds will be overwhelming, the mud relentless, the cost high. Watching from afar will have to suffice.

But then June arrives, and suddenly, every group chat is flooded with nothing but Glastonbury plans. Some friends even create groups without us, sparing us from their elaborate strategies—discussions about which booze to bring, the best snacks, tent setups, and ideal arrival times in Pilton. The planning itself is part of the fun, a ritual in anticipation of one of the world’s most iconic music festivals.

Around Somerset and beyond, the Glastonbury spirit takes over. Supermarkets fill with revelers' shopping lists: crates of Thatchers cider, boxes of wine, mixers, and beer. The telltale signs of festival prep are everywhere—in the bustling aisles of Sainsbury’s, Lidl, and Morrisons.

This year’s festival kicks off Wednesday, June 25th, with many attendees taking time off work to soak up five days of incredible music and camaraderie. Early forecasts hint at warm, sunny weather—perfect for dancing in the fields and sharing unforgettable moments. While weather predictions vary, hopes remain high for dry, pleasant days with just a dash of cloud cover.

To the 200,000 people heading to the festival, we wish you the best time. Glastonbury is a place like no other — a celebration of music, community, and joy where everyone looks out for one another. Watching from afar, those of us not attending will feel that familiar pang of longing on June 25, with no tent to pitch and no rucksack to pack.

Yet, even in our absence, the sight of happy faces on television and the sound of music everywhere remind us of the magic that is Glastonbury—a place where life feels just right.
