In anticipation of heavy traffic caused by the upcoming Glastonbury Festival, Somerset Council has announced that recycling and rubbish collections will start at 6am in the eastern region of Somerset. This adjustment aims to help bin crews complete their rounds efficiently despite the increased road congestion tied to the festival’s 210,000-capacity crowd.
The schedule change will be effective from Tuesday, June 24 through Friday, June 27. During this period, residents of the former Mendip district are advised to place their bins, recycling boxes, and waste bags out the night before collection or no later than 6am on collection days.
Somerset Council emphasizes that this measure is designed to minimize any disruption to services including general waste, recycling, and garden waste collections.

Traffic on the A361 route between Glastonbury and Shepton Mallet is expected to be particularly heavy from Monday, June 23 until Monday, June 30. The council urges residents and commuters to plan their travel accordingly during these dates.
Somerset’s waste and recycling teams manage over 350,000 collections weekly. For details about recycling processes and updates, residents can visit the Somerset Recycling Tracker on the council’s official website. Missed collections can also be reported online to ensure prompt response.
