Glastonbury Festival’s community spirit has extended beyond the music stage, with volunteers raising £4,500 to upgrade library facilities and reading materials at two primary schools in Somerset. Croscombe Church of England Primary School and Stoke St Michael Primary School will use the funds to refresh their libraries, offering students access to up-to-date books that accommodate a range of reading levels and interests.
Tracy Massey-Sturgess, head of schools and SEN coordinator, highlighted the impact: “Our pupils have varied literacy needs. Some face serious challenges, while others require more advanced material to keep engaged. Having the right resources boosts every child’s confidence, helps them progress, and opens doors to future opportunities. We’re deeply thankful to Glastonbury Festival and the volunteers who helped make this happen.”
The investment aims to foster a love of reading, spark curiosity, and support students struggling with literacy, ensuring all pupils receive tailored encouragement. Both schools also extended their gratitude to the local volunteers who stewarded at the festival, whose efforts were key to securing this vital contribution.
