Glastonbury Festival 2025 Issues Health Warnings Ahead of Event

With just two weeks until the gates open at Worthy Farm for Glastonbury Festival 2025, health officials are urging attendees to stay vigilant about several potential health risks. The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) South West and Somerset Council have released important advice to promote a safe and enjoyable festival experience from June 25 to 29.

Authorities are particularly concerned about the spread of measles and sexually transmitted infections (STIs), alongside weather-related illnesses and the dangers associated with drug and alcohol use during the event.

Dr. Alasdair Wood, Consultant in Health Protection at UKHSA South West, emphasized the importance of vaccination: “Measles is currently circulating widely across the UK, and large gatherings like festivals can accelerate its spread. If you are not fully vaccinated with your MMR (measles, mumps, and rubella) vaccine, please contact your GP to arrange vaccination before attending.”

Visitors feeling unwell or advised to isolate due to measles or other infections are urged to follow public health guidelines strictly to protect others.

The rise in STIs is another pressing concern. Dr. Wood stated, “We are seeing a surge in STI cases, especially among young people. STIs can cause severe health complications and impact the wellbeing of sexual partners. Using condoms remains the best method of protection. If you have recently had sex with a new or casual partner without protection, we strongly recommend getting tested promptly—even if you show no symptoms.”

In addition to infectious diseases, festival goers should be prepared for variable weather conditions. UKHSA advises attendees to pack for all scenarios: sturdy boots or wellies, waterproof clothing, sun protection, and layers to stay warm during cooler nights. “Staying hydrated, wearing suncream, and moderating alcohol consumption are crucial, particularly during hot weather to prevent heat-related illnesses.”

The agency also urged caution regarding ticks, which are more common during the peak season. “If you find a tick, remove it immediately with fine-tipped tweezers or a specialized tick-removal tool. Grip the tick as close to the skin as possible, then pull upwards slowly and steadily to reduce the risk of infection.”

Regarding substance use, Glastonbury Festival reinforces its zero-tolerance policy on illegal drugs. The festival reminds attendees that drug enforcement laws apply rigorously on site. Anyone experiencing adverse effects from substances is encouraged to seek immediate help from on-site medical or welfare services.

Signs of overdose can vary, but timely intervention can save lives. Festival staff are trained to assist anyone in distress.

By following these precautions, festival-goers can help ensure that Glastonbury 2025 is safe, healthy, and memorable for all the right reasons.
