This year, Glastonbury Festival sees stars like Sam Ryder and Self Esteem championing train travel as a key part of their journey to the iconic event. Joining them are Nova Twins and Greentea Peng, who have pledged to travel by train and encourage their fans to do the same in an effort to reduce pollution and ease travel stress.
The “I came by train” campaign by Trainline invites festivalgoers to ditch their cars for a more sustainable and relaxed journey. Great Western Railway (GWR), the main train operator serving the closest station, Castle Cary, highlights that train travel produces 67% less pollution compared to driving.
To ensure convenience, GWR will run over 55 trains from London Paddington to Castle Cary, providing 37,000 seats outbound between Wednesday and Friday and more than 16,000 seats for the return on Monday, July 1. Additional services will connect Castle Cary with Westbury and Taunton for travelers from farther away.

Festival attendees can take advantage of a free shuttle bus from Castle Cary station directly to Worthy Farm, the heart of Glastonbury Festival. Due to high demand, GWR requires all passengers traveling to Castle Cary to reserve seats in advance.
On the return journey, seat availability operates on a first-come, first-served basis per destination, with queues expected at train boarding points and at Castle Cary station for bus connections. Festival organizers and GWR advise travelers to plan accordingly and prepare for possible wait times.
The Glastonbury Festival opens to the public on Wednesday, June 25. For detailed information on train services, luggage guidelines, and shuttle buses, passengers should consult GWR’s official resources.
