The Gillingham & Shaftesbury Show, one of Dorset’s most beloved summer events, returns on 13th and 14th August packed with exhilarating entertainment, rural charm, and memorable experiences for the whole family.
Taking center stage are The Knights of Albion, making their Dorset debut with an electrifying medieval jousting show. This spectacular performance features professional stunt riders and trick-trained horses clad in movie-quality armour and vibrant costumes. Audiences will be transported back to an era of chivalry and bravery, witnessing intense clashes between heroes and villains in a captivating theatrical spectacle. Will you rally behind Gillingham’s own Sir Marc the Brave or Shaftesbury’s Sir Rebekka the Wise? Don’t forget to jeer the notorious Sir John the Vile from Trowbridge!
Adding a modern edge to the countryside show, the Tigers Motorcycle Display Team will thrill spectators with their death-defying stunts. Comprising riders as young as five up to sixteen, the team will blaze through fire jumps, high-speed chicanes, and incredible aerial maneuvers that promise to leave audiences breathless.

Cat Harris, Show Organiser, enthused, “From the historic drama of medieval jousting to the excitement of contemporary stunt riding, our line-up offers something for everyone.”
Outside the arena, visitors can enjoy a rich array of traditional rural attractions including livestock parades, equestrian events, and Shetland pony racing on the 14th. Heavy horses will be on display both days, where guests can learn about these gentle giants through interactive plaiting and harnessing demonstrations. And for an extra touch of delight, don’t miss the country’s most popular live sheep dancing show.
The Sheep Show returns with its charming presentation featuring nine distinct breeds. Meet stars like Nobby the Norfolk as the flock performs entertaining routines set to their own theme tunes. This educational yet fun-filled show also includes a live shearing demonstration and culminates in the lively ‘Sheep Show Shuffle’.
Cat Harris added, “The Sheep Show wonderfully blends education and entertainment, giving visitors an insight into wool production and the fascinating world of sheep.”
Children can dive into the Fun, Food and Farming tent, offering interactive learning about rural life and food. Vintage machinery, steam engines, classic cars, crafts, shopping, live music, and a funfair complete the festive atmosphere.
