As the countdown to Somerset Day 2025 begins, the excitement is palpable across the county. Scheduled for the weekend of Saturday, May 10 and Sunday, May 11, the event promises an array of activities celebrating Somerset’s heritage, produce, and community spirit.
The festivities kick off with a special Choral Evensong at Taunton Minster on Sunday, May 4, setting the tone for the upcoming celebrations. The highlight of the weekend is the Big Somerset Picnic, encouraging everyone to come together and enjoy local produce while supporting charitable causes.
A new addition this year is a major event at Rich’s Cider Farm featuring local music, food, and family-friendly entertainment. The festivities commence on Saturday evening with a performance by Somerset legends, The Wurzels, and continue into Sunday with activities showcasing the county’s talent and hospitality.

Residents and businesses are encouraged to display their county pride by flying the Somerset flag and hanging bunting at their homes and premises, turning the county red and yellow in support of the celebration.
Nigel Muers-Raby, founder of Passion for Somerset, expressed his anticipation, highlighting the exciting line-up of events that will truly showcase the spirit of the county. He urged everyone to participate and celebrate all that makes Somerset special.
Somerset Day, commemorating Alfred the Great’s rallying of the county against the invading Viking army, has grown significantly since its inception in 2015 and continues to unite the community in celebration.
