Gardeners' World’s Adam Frost Shares Insight into His Marriage and Family Life

Gardeners' World presenter Adam Frost, who has been a familiar face on the show since 2016, recently opened up about his marriage and family life with refreshing honesty. At 55, Adam reflects on his journey with his wife Sulina, whom he met in the 1990s. The couple married soon after and have since welcomed four children: Abi-Jade, Jacob, Amber-Lily, and Oakley.

Three years ago, Adam faced a challenging period after being diagnosed with depression and exhaustion. In response, he scaled back his workload, and the family made the decision to move from their spacious home with a four-acre garden to a smaller, more manageable property. Adam shared with Wales Online how maintaining their large grounds while running a gardening school had become overwhelming.

Now, his current home offers a comforting sense of safety. Over his career, Adam has earned seven gold medals at the Chelsea Flower Show and established himself as a respected Gardeners' World presenter, a major change from his early teens spent working in parks across North Devon.

Adam credits much of his success to Sulina’s unwavering strength and support. Speaking to Yours magazine, he said, “They always say behind every successful man is a strong woman. She’s more than strong; she’s a bit scary.” He added with affection, “The kids say she’s a lioness. If you’re unpleasant to me or the children, you end up with the wrath of Mrs Frost. We don’t want to cross Mrs Frost.”

Despite Adam’s horticultural expertise, Sulina often takes charge in their garden. Adam joked that many assume she would “leave him to it,” but she prefers a more orderly garden, contrasting with his passion for “gardening for wildlife.” He recounted spotting an evergreen he thought should remain untouched — only to find Sulina had already trimmed it back, making him feel like “the most experienced understudy in the country” at their home.

Adam acknowledges that “doing as he is told” has become a cornerstone of their long-lasting marriage.

On the professional front, Adam offered a glimpse into his rapport with fellow Gardeners' World presenter Monty Don, whom he affectionately calls “The Lordship.” Though they come from “different worlds,” Adam says they work together “as good as gold,” with Monty and former host Alan Titchmarsh providing a supportive ear throughout his career. While filming schedules rarely bring them together, the trio often reconnect at horticultural events across the country.

Adam returns to Gardeners' World tonight (August 22), where viewers will see him tending to his mini-meadow and preparing his autumn container display. The episode will also feature Advolly Richmond, following in the legacy of gardening icon Vita Sackville-West. Gardeners' World airs at 8 pm on BBC Two.
