Garage and Contents Completely Destroyed in Early Morning Fire

A devastating fire completely destroyed a garage and everything inside it, including a car, in Pitney, Somerset. The standalone building, which was equipped with solar panels on its roof and filled with household items, caught fire at approximately 6:45 a.m. on Monday, December 1.

Firefighters from the Somerton, Martock, and Street stations quickly responded to the scene. Upon arrival, Incident Commander Dan found the garage—measuring roughly 20 meters by 10 meters—fully engulfed in flames. Inside was a car and various household belongings.

The firefighting team, wearing breathing apparatus, tackled the blaze using a hose reel jet and 51mm attack jets. Additional crews from Martock and Yeovil provided support, utilizing thermal imaging cameras, ladders, and specialized tools to control the fire. Despite their efforts, the garage and all its contents were completely destroyed.

Somerset Fire Station confirmed that the cause of the fire is believed to be accidental. The early morning incident highlights the swift and coordinated response by multiple fire crews to manage a complex fire involving both a vehicle and solar panels.
