Funeral Procession for World’s Longest-Serving KFC Employee to Pass by Her Beloved Restaurant

The funeral procession of Pauline Richards, recognized as the world’s longest-serving KFC employee, will honor her remarkable legacy by passing the very restaurant where she devoted almost five decades of her life. Pauline began her journey with KFC in 1978 at the Taunton branch in Somerset, serving over five million drumsticks and touching countless lives along the way.

Affectionately known as “Miss KFC,” Pauline held nearly every position within the restaurant—from cleaner and cashier to supervisor, manager, and team leader. She was a beloved figure in Taunton, known for her warmth and the genuine care she showed everyone she met. Pauline passed away last month at the age of 74, leaving behind a profound impact on her community.

In the wake of her death, heartfelt tributes poured in from family, friends, and loyal customers who admired her dedication and kindness. Earlier this year, Pauline made headlines as KFC’s longest-serving employee worldwide, further cementing her extraordinary career.

Her family has announced that her funeral will take place on Wednesday, August 20. The procession will depart from her home at 12:45 pm, making its way through the town with a significant moment at 1:15 pm when it passes the KFC restaurant on East Street—her workplace and a place many in the community will recognize. This route will serve as a poignant farewell from the town that held her in such high esteem.

Community members are invited to pay their respects during the procession or at a wake planned for 5 pm at The Library bar (formerly Pitcher & Piano) in Taunton, where friends and family will celebrate Pauline’s life. Children are welcome to attend. Condolence books will soon be made available, including one at the KFC on East Street, giving locals a chance to share memories and messages of farewell.

Pauline’s children, Wayne and Tracey Sutton, shared a heartfelt tribute in the Somerset County Gazette: “Mum was a truly special person. Kind, caring, and generous, she was adored by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She made everyone feel seen and valued—whether family, friends, customers, or colleagues. Working at KFC was more than a job for her; it was a place where she built lasting friendships and cherished connections.”

They added, “Being part of the Taunton community meant everything to Mum. The flood of tributes and support from near and far has been a great comfort to us. Thank you to everyone for your kind words—it would have meant the world to her.”
