Detective Constable Charlotte Couch condemned the attack as “abhorrent” and urged carnival-goers who witnessed the incident to come forward. “This man suffered significant trauma in a crowded event attended by thousands. Though there is no current indication of further threats to the public, we are committed to a thorough investigation and urge anyone with information to assist us.”
The Bridgwater Guy Fawkes Carnival is a popular annual event attracting around 150,000 spectators who gather to enjoy illuminated floats, rides, concerts, and fireworks. While the procession took place earlier in the evening from 6 pm to 8 pm, the attack occurred several hours later, within the bustling crowds still present in the town.
Police continue to examine CCTV footage from local businesses and appeal to anyone with information to contact them promptly to aid the investigation and help bring those responsible to justice.
