A new cycling initiative in Frome has made a remarkable impact on local travel safety by donating £8,500 to the town’s Missing Links campaign, which aims to expand traffic-free routes around Somerset.
The gift was announced during the annual general meeting of Frome’s Missing Links, with representatives from the Frome Community Bike Project (FCBP) revealing it as their first donation since launching in January 2024.
This total donation includes £1,500 raised through the campaign’s Crowdfunder earlier in the year, alongside an additional £7,000 contributed in April, marking a significant financial commitment from the cycling hub.

Ruth Knagg, trustee of Frome’s Missing Links, expressed her astonishment at the generosity: “We expected the Bike Project to focus on covering their own operating costs during these early years, so this donation is nothing short of marvellous. Our need to fund the remaining off-road cycle path segments remains critical for safer, more enjoyable walking and cycling in Frome. We’re incredibly grateful to everyone at FCBP.”
Operating as a non-profit recycling centre and cycling hub, FCBP has swiftly become a cherished community asset, offering refurbished bicycles, mechanical repairs, group rides, and training to promote cycling accessibility.
Emma Parker, FCBP’s director, noted: “We’re thrilled to support Frome’s Missing Links with this donation. Our volunteers’ dedication and the community’s support have made the project a success. We’re excited about the future and plan to keep encouraging cycling across Frome.”
The group thanked its volunteers, who contribute to every aspect—from repairs and retail assistance to event organisation and leading rides.
Those interested in volunteering, particularly as retail assistants on Saturdays, are invited to visit fromebikeproject.org or email [email protected] to get involved.
