The Frome community has shown remarkable solidarity in the wake of a major fire that devastated a block of flats at Edmund Park Estate. The blaze, which started just before 8pm on Wednesday, December 3, forced the evacuation of residents from nine flats, leaving many displaced and in urgent need of assistance.
In response, dozens of kind-hearted community members quickly turned to social media to offer help. One Facebook user offered an array of clothing, including warm jumpers, jackets, desserts, and shoes, while another extended support for pet owners by providing indoor hutches, food, and accessories. Other residents pledged various household items and comforting words to those affected, hoping to ensure that everyone has a safe place for the upcoming Christmas season.
The fire caused extensive damage to the building, with smoke, fire, and water severely impacting the structure. Parts of the roof collapsed, and the building’s integrity is now compromised, necessitating temporary relocation for the displaced families.

Frome Town Council has stepped in to coordinate aid efforts, urging anyone affected to reach out for essential supplies. They have established a support system with Fair Frome volunteers ready to deliver needed items once requests are made through the Town Hall.
For those seeking a warm environment, the pop-up Winter Café at the Key Centre on Feltham Lane is open throughout December and January. It serves free hot and cold refreshments, lunch, and provides a welcoming space with WiFi for work or relaxation. Additionally, Fair Frome’s ‘Food at Five’ program offers hot meals and desserts at Trinity Church Hall, operating as a warm space with accommodations for dietary needs.
Cllr Fiona Barrows, Chairman and Leader of Frome Town Council, praised the community’s swift response and emphasized the importance of coordinated support. She asked residents to avoid donating large quantities or bulky items at this stage to ensure resources are used efficiently.
Anyone needing assistance following the fire is encouraged to contact Frome Town Hall by phone at 01373 465757 or via email at [email protected]. The Town Hall is open Monday to Thursday from 9am to 5pm, and Friday from 9am to 4.30pm. The ongoing collaboration between locals, charities, and housing authorities reflects a community determined to help its members through this difficult time.
