A frequent traveller has spoken out in frustration over the ongoing disregard for non-smoking regulations at Bristol Airport. Despite prominent signage banning smoking at the airport’s ‘Drop and Go’ car park, the passenger and her family are repeatedly exposed to second-hand smoke from smokers lighting up right by the parking bays.
Choosing to remain anonymous, she shared her experience: “Every time I unload my luggage, my family and I have to inhale smoke from people smoking right beside us. It’s frustrating that there’s no visible enforcement.” She noted that staff are rarely seen addressing the issue or reminding smokers of the rules.
“This covered area has clear no-smoking signs, yet it’s treated like a free-for-all. It’s not only unpleasant but unhygienic and unacceptable. The airport needs to do more to ensure a safe environment for all travellers,” she said. She also observed that smoking occurs elsewhere near terminal entrances, including by the arrivals exit where no-smoking signs are posted.
Large groups openly light cigarettes and even cigars immediately upon exiting the building, which she described as “madness” and a “public health hazard.”
Bristol Airport has designated smoking areas outside the terminal and beyond security by Gate 4. A spokesperson emphasized: “We request that passengers show respect by smoking or vaping only in these designated areas.”
Recently, changes were introduced to the Drop and Go parking zone to streamline payment with cashless options, including card and contactless services like Apple and Google Pay. Fees range from £7 for 10 minutes up to £30 for an hour. For longer drop-offs, the airport encourages using the short-stay or waiting zone car parks, the latter offering one hour of free parking.
