Free Family Festival Returns to Shepton Mallet with Hula Hoop Fun, Circus Acts, and Giant Balloons

The beloved family theatre festival, All the World’s Our Playground, is back in Shepton Mallet for its sixth year. Known for its vibrant and imaginative programming, this one-of-a-kind event is the only UK festival designed and curated by primary school-aged children.

Organisers have collaborated with young creatives from across the region to craft a lively, free, family-friendly celebration that promises to transform Shepton Mallet into a joyful hub of artistry and play. Attendees can look forward to a dazzling array of activities including spectacular aerial circus performances, samba music, giant balloons, and the much-anticipated “hula hoop madness.”

Taking place at diverse venues such as the town centre, the Art Bank, The Amulet, and Create8, the festival offers an abundance of craft workshops, pop-up community film screenings, and spontaneous performances throughout the day. Visitors can also unwind in a nostalgic tea room and engage in creative sessions at Create8.

The main festival day is set for Saturday, July 19, followed by an international performance on Sunday, July 20, and an extended four-day fringe programme featuring even more exciting events.

Festival organisers, Make the Sunshine, shared their enthusiasm: “This festival celebrates the extraordinary creativity of young people while fostering joy and community at the heart of Shepton. From aerial circus acts and samba rhythms to tea and craft-making, there truly is something for everyone. We believe in making high-quality theatre and dance accessible, so all events are free to enjoy.”

The festival is supported by Shepton Mallet Town Council, Take Art, Let’s Buy the Amulet, Shepton Artists, Without Walls, and generous local donors.
