Starting Wednesday, July 1, free beach parking will be available again at both Brean and Barrow beaches, much to the delight of visitors and residents. Discover Brean announced the return of this popular scheme, which will be trialed this year to enhance the beach experience for everyone.
The beaches will be organized into designated zones, featuring areas where vehicles can access the shore and separate traffic-free sections for safe family enjoyment. This thoughtful layout aims to balance convenience with safety.
The announcement received widespread praise. One disabled visitor expressed heartfelt appreciation: “As a disabled visitor, this is fabulous news. On days when I’m too unwell to leave the car or use my wheelchair, being able to sit on the beach while my children play is far better than being isolated in a remote car park.”

Locals also see this as a boost for tourism. One resident shared hopeful words: “I hope this brings back many day-trippers we lost due to past parking restrictions. We’ve missed you in the village and welcome you back.” Another highlighted the safety benefits for families: “It’s great to see a traffic-free zone where kids can play safely. I look forward to seeing sandcastles and driftwood collections again.”
While 2026 has been challenging for Brean’s local economy, particularly with the liquidation of Brean Theme Park, other attractions like Unity Holidays, Brean Splash, Brean Play, and Brean Gym continue to operate. Positive developments emerged in March when Unity Beach unveiled a £15 million investment that includes a new entertainment venue, sports bar, and pub, promising renewed vitality for the area.
