Free beach parking is making a comeback at Brean this summer, much to the delight of day-trippers and residents alike. Starting Wednesday, July 1, visitors to both Brean and Barrow beaches will once again be able to park for free along the shoreline.
Discover Brean confirmed this is a trial scheme for the year, introducing designated zones on the beaches. These zones will include areas with vehicle access alongside traffic-free sections dedicated to family and children’s safety.
The announcement has been warmly received, especially by visitors with disabilities. One woman shared, “As a disabled visitor, this is fabulous news. Some days, I’m too unwell to leave the car, so being able to sit on the beach while my adult children play means I can still be part of the fun without feeling isolated.”

Local residents also expressed optimism about the impact on tourism. “We hope this brings back the many day trippers we lost due to previous parking changes. We’ve missed you in our village and warmly welcome your return,” said one. Another resident praised the safe, traffic-free zones for families, adding, “I look forward to seeing sandcastles and driftwood collections filling the beach once again.”
After a challenging year economically, marked by the liquidation of Brean Theme Park earlier in 2026, there is renewed hope for the area’s vitality. Other attractions such as Unity Holidays, Brean Splash, Brean Play, and Brean Gym remain open. Additionally, a bright spot arrived in March with Unity Beach’s £15 million investment, unveiling a new entertainment venue, sports bar, and pub to enhance the visitor experience.
The return of free beach parking highlights a community effort to restore Brean’s reputation as a welcoming seaside destination and to ensure enjoyable, accessible experiences for all visitors.
