Free beach parking is set to make a welcome return to Brean this summer by popular demand. Starting Wednesday, July 1, both Brean and Barrow beaches will offer free parking along their shores, providing easier access for visitors and locals alike.
Discover Brean announced that this parking scheme will be trialled this year, with the beaches divided into designated zones. These zones will include areas allowing vehicle access alongside traffic-free sections designed for safer and quieter family enjoyment.
The announcement has been warmly received by residents and visitors. One disabled visitor shared their excitement, saying, “As a disabled visitor, this is fantastic news. On days when I’m too unwell to leave the car, being able to stay on the beach and watch my children’s enjoyment is far better than sitting alone in a distant car park.”

Many hope the return of free parking will also help boost tourism. A local resident expressed optimism: “I hope this brings back many of the day trippers we’ve lost due to previous parking changes. We’ve missed you in the village and welcome you back.”
Another resident welcomed the inclusion of traffic-free zones, saying, “It’s great to see areas where families and young children can play safely. I look forward to seeing sandcastles and driftwood collections on the beach again.”
The year 2026 has been challenging for Brean’s economy, highlighted by the liquidation of Brean Theme Park earlier this year. However, other local attractions like Unity Holidays, Brean Splash, Brean Play, and Brean Gym continue to operate as usual.
Positive developments also came in March, with Unity Beach unveiling a £15 million investment that introduced a new entertainment venue, sports bar, pub, and more, signaling a promising future for the seaside town.
