Four individuals were trapped in a vehicle after it veered off the road and crashed into a ditch on the A303 in Somerset this afternoon (Saturday, November 22).
The incident occurred just after 2pm between Sparkford and Wincanton. Multiple fire crews were immediately dispatched to the scene following reports of the crash.
All three emergency services—fire, ambulance, and police—were on site, supported by the air ambulance. Firefighters worked diligently to free the four occupants trapped inside the vehicle.

The rescue operation lasted several hours, with fire crews remaining on scene until shortly after 9pm. The condition of the passengers has not yet been disclosed.
As of now, the A303 remains closed in both directions while authorities continue investigating the incident. National Highways confirmed a large section of the road between the A359 near Sparkford and the A371 near Wincanton is shut, and diversion routes have been set up for motorists.
In a statement, Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said, “Three fire engines responded to a single-vehicle collision on the A303 near Wincanton. Upon arrival, crews found the vehicle had left the road into a ditch with four people trapped inside. Additional resources, including a heavy rescue unit, were mobilized. Firefighters collaborated with ambulance teams to release the casualties. The incident has now been handed over to the police.”
