Ten former professional footballers, including ex-Yeovil Town captain Carl Dickinson, are set to swap their football boots for boxing gloves in an exciting charity event later this year. ‘A Night to Remember II,’ organised by Pro Project Promotions, will take place against the bustling backdrop of the Merseyside derby weekend, aiming to support Children’s Charity Merseyside and Autism Merseyside.
Following the tremendous success of last year’s inaugural event, which raised over £127,500, the organisers aspire to push donations closer to the £500,000 mark this time around. Pro Project Promotions, founded by former Arsenal goalkeeper Graham Stack, brings together retired athletes to channel their competitive spirit into meaningful causes. The event features an impressive lineup of ex-professional footballers stepping into the ring to test their physical and mental endurance while raising vital funds.
Key participants include former Swansea and Bristol City star Lee Trundle, ex-Premier League player Ross McCormack, and Wolves’ goalkeeper and leukemia survivor Carl Ikeme. Notably, the card will showcase gripping matchups such as Lee Trundle versus Chris Iwelumo, Bradley Orr facing Carl Ikeme, and an all-Scouse clash between Adam Hammill and former Tranmere Rovers captain Steven Jennings. Carl Dickinson will take on Ryan Cresswell in another highlight bout.

Dickinson expressed enthusiasm for the challenge, saying, “I’ve chosen to take part as it’s taking me out of my comfort zone and testing me physically and mentally. I’m looking forward to the training, meeting the lads, and most importantly, raising money for amazing causes.”
The event will be held on Friday, April 17, at the Titanic Hotel and promises a fusion of high-energy boxing, entertainment, and community spirit. Veteran boxers and personalities such as Tony Bellew, the Smith Brothers, David Price, and Natasha Jonas will be present, with Nelson, Steve Bunce, and Ian Saint John officiating the bouts. Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher and Everton great Francis Jeffers will host a football Q&A session, adding to the evening’s appeal.
Graham Stack highlighted the broader mission of Pro Project Promotions, noting the challenges athletes face post-retirement and how events like this provide purpose and community. “The city will be buzzing during the Merseyside derby weekend, and I can’t wait to showcase these ex-footballers battling it out in the ring while raising money for important local charities.”
Former British heavyweight champion David Price applauded the initiative: “What they are doing is fantastic, supporting charities close to many people’s hearts, which makes it all the more special.”
World champion boxer Natasha Jonas echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the significance of purpose for retiring athletes. “For many, retirement can be daunting, but this event gives them purpose and the opportunity to raise money for charity, which is huge.”
With a blend of competitive spirit and charitable commitment, ‘A Night to Remember II’ promises an unforgettable evening dedicated to community support and athletic resilience.
