Plans to convert the former Pizza Hut restaurant in Frome, Somerset, into a tanning salon have been officially approved by Somerset Council. The Pizza Hut operated from Unit 1 of Enterprise House in the Wessex Fields business park until its closure in 2020, prompted by the coronavirus pandemic.
After Pizza Hut’s departure, the unit was occupied by Dough & Co pizza company until they vacated the premises in 2022. In late November 2025, Consol Ltd. submitted an application to repurpose the space into a tanning salon, which has now received council approval.
The new salon will occupy the ground floor of the unit, with the first floor reserved for storage or accommodation in accordance with the original planning permission. The tanning salon is set to welcome customers by spring, offering both appointment and walk-in services akin to Consol’s existing locations in Bridgwater, Taunton, and Yeovil.

Boon Brown Architects, representing Consol Ltd., highlighted the site’s ample shared parking and the employment opportunities the salon will bring, estimating around 10 to 12 jobs across various roles. Peak operating hours are planned for weekday mornings, lunch breaks, and early evenings, catering to customers visiting before or after work or during their breaks.
The council found that the salon’s operation would not significantly affect traffic flow, as many customers combine visits with trips to other retail and employment park destinations. Enterprise House’s current tenants include Frome’s KFC, the police enquiry desk, and the Dorothy House Hospice Care furniture store.
The transformation forms part of broader developments within the Wessex Fields area, which is set to expand alongside the nearby Keyford Meadows housing project comprising 198 homes. Additionally, a new Home Bargains store recently approved by the council promises to create approximately 100 local jobs, with future commercial growth expected as the Selwood Garden Community housing development awaits potential approval.
Planning officer Carlton Langford affirmed that the tanning salon plans adhered to design and environmental standards, ensuring no significant negative impact on neighboring properties’ amenity or the local character.
With approval secured, the tanning salon on the former Pizza Hut site is poised to become a vibrant addition to Frome’s business community by late spring 2026.
