Former Shoe Zone Store in Taunton Town Centre Reimagined as Art Gallery

Taunton’s town centre has welcomed a vibrant new addition with the transformation of the former Shoe Zone store into Triton Galleries, an art gallery specializing in original artworks and collectible limited editions by leading contemporary artists worldwide. This exciting development was brought to life through the retail space letting by Summerfield Commercial, revitalizing the High Street location.

Triton Galleries, already established in Dartmouth and Torquay, features an impressive collection including a rare 1972 L.S. Lowry limited edition print titled Going to the Match. This exclusive print, signed in pencil and one of only 300 ever produced, is highly prized by collectors. The original painting famously sold for £7.8 million in 2022, underscoring the gallery’s commitment to showcasing exceptional art.

Summerfield Commercial has not only refurbished the ground floor to accommodate the gallery but is also undertaking the conversion of the two upper floors into four high-quality apartments. These residences are expected to be available for rent by the end of summer, adding a residential dimension to this bustling area of the town.

Will Grant, Director of Summerfield Commercial, expressed excitement about the project: “We are delighted that the space will be dedicated to art, enriching the heart of Taunton. With two museums, a theatre, Castle Green event space, and regular markets, the town centre is becoming a vibrant hub for both culture and retail.”

David Phelps, Director of Triton Galleries, echoed the enthusiasm: “Opening in the county town is a fantastic opportunity to connect with both long-time collectors and those discovering art for the first time. We look forward to showcasing a diverse range of highly collectible artists alongside emerging talents.”

This transformation marks a significant cultural investment in Taunton, positioning the High Street as a destination that celebrates artistic expression alongside community living.
