A former Pizza Hut restaurant located in Somerset’s Wessex Fields business park could soon be transformed into a tanning salon, pending approval from Somerset Council.
The unit, situated at Enterprise House in Frome, was home to Pizza Hut until 2020, when the pandemic forced its closure. The premises were later occupied by Dough & Co pizza until they vacated in 2022.
Now, Consol Ltd. has submitted an application to convert the space into a tanning salon, with a final decision anticipated in early 2026. The proposed tanning salon would occupy the ground floor, while the first floor could be used for storage or accommodation in accordance with existing planning permissions.

Current tenants of Enterprise House include a KFC restaurant, the local police enquiry desk, and Dorothy House Hospice Care’s furniture store.
According to Boon Brown Architects, representatives for Consol Ltd., the site benefits from ample shared parking. The tanning salon aims to create employment for 10 to 12 people across various roles, with peak hours during weekday mornings, lunch breaks, and evenings.
“Our customers typically visit on their way to or from work, or during lunch,” the spokesperson noted. Many combine their visit with trips to nearby retailers, helping to reduce additional car journeys. The change of use isn’t expected to significantly impact traffic in the area.
The Wessex Fields business park is set for expansion, with 198 new homes under construction nearby at Keyford Meadows by Curo. Additionally, a recently approved Home Bargains store on Oakley Way promises around 100 local jobs, and further commercial developments are planned near Frome’s southern edge contingent on approval of the Selwood Garden Community, a 1,700-home project currently awaiting government decision after a public inquiry.
Somerset Council’s ruling on the tanning salon application is expected in spring 2026, marking a new chapter for the former Pizza Hut site within this growing business hub.
