Former Natwest branch in North Somerset to transform into 24/7 PureGym

Nailsea, a town in North Somerset, is about to welcome a new 24/7 gym at the site of the former Natwest bank. PureGym has announced plans to convert the vacant bank branch and the adjacent former M&Co store in Somerset Square into its latest fitness facility.

The approval from North Somerset Council marks the beginning of a simple development process for the proposed gym. PureGym’s vision for the location includes offering members round-the-clock access to a wide range of fitness equipment and classes, without the constraints of a long-term contract.

In support of the project, 17 locals have expressed their excitement, emphasizing the potential for more people to enjoy fitness facilities at their convenience. The prospect of an affordable, no-contract gym has garnered widespread approval for its potential to make fitness more accessible to a diverse population and bring a positive impact to the community.

While the plans have received significant support, eight objections have been raised, primarily concerning parking. Local businesses, including @theGym, have voiced concerns about potential impacts on their operation and community-focused ethos.

The upcoming gym’s arrival coincides with significant changes in Nailsea, including the relocation of the Nailsea Library and the transformation of its former building into the Livro Lounge. Additionally, plans are underway for the construction of 38 flats on the derelict Weston College building, signaling a period of revitalization in the town center.

PureGym’s expansion into Nailsea aligns with its established presence in Portishead and Bristol, further solidifying its commitment to providing fitness options across the region.
