The former slaughterhouse in Bath, known for being on Cheltenham Street in Westmoreland, is undergoing a transformation that could see it become a hub for dining out. The current owners have repurposed the space into a production kitchen for their local restaurants and now seek to expand its utility by creating a “pop-up” restaurant within its premises.
Their application for an alcohol license for the site highlights the potential of the enclosed external courtyard, referred to as ‘Cheltenham Yard,’ particularly emphasizing its appeal during the summer months. The proposal outlines intentions to utilize the space for a licensed ‘pop-up restaurant,’ complete with a pizza oven, grill, and bar.
However, the plans are subject to a licensing hearing as concerns have been raised about the potential disturbances it could cause. One neighbor, Emma Sinden, expressed apprehension about the impact on the mostly residential area, highlighting the prevalence of families with young children. She cited concerns about lingering crowds, noisy and drunken behavior, and increased instances of public disruption and littering.

The proposed operating hours are from 12 pm to 10.15 pm daily, with the licensed hours concluding at 10 pm, and any alcohol consumption restricted to the premises.
The hearing to review the plans is scheduled to be held before the Bath and North East Somerset Council ’s licensing sub-committee on Wednesday, April 24, at 10 am in the Guildhall in Bath.
