Fog Causes Flight Diversions and Delays at Bristol Airport

Foggy conditions at Bristol Airport on the morning of September 24 caused significant disruptions for incoming flights. Several aircraft were forced to divert to alternative airports located over 100 miles away due to low visibility.

According to travel monitoring site Inrix, a number of flights destined for Bristol experienced delays or diversions early Wednesday. RyanAir flights from Madrid and Alicante were redirected to Cardiff Airport, while an easyJet flight from Alicante had to land at London Gatwick, about 150 miles off its intended course.

Other flights into Bristol also faced delays throughout the morning. The easyJet flight from Hurghada, Egypt, arrived an hour late, and the Jet2 flight from Burgas, Bulgaria, touched down 75 minutes behind schedule. Additionally, an AerLingus flight from Dublin circled over Bristol for an extended period before it was safe to land, taking a total of one hour and 40 minutes instead of the usual 40-minute flight.

Although weather conditions have since improved and flights have resumed normal operations, lingering delays remain due to the earlier disruption. The airport expects regular service to be fully restored by 1:30 pm. However, two KLM flights from Amsterdam to Bristol scheduled for the day were cancelled.
