Lancashire’s Keaton Jennings and Rocky Flintoff delivered career-best List A centuries to lead their side to a commanding 174-run victory over Somerset in the Metro Bank One-Day Cup at Taunton’s Cooper Associates County Ground. This win propelled Lancashire to their highest ever List A total, scoring an impressive 443-6 after being sent in to bat.
Jennings was in sensational form, smashing 156 runs off 127 balls, while 18-year-old Flintoff recorded his first Lancashire century, a rapid 123 from just 76 deliveries. Their partnership was a key feature of the innings, adding 214 runs for the fourth wicket and showcasing aggressive hitting that included 20 sixes - setting a new record for the highest List A total against Somerset on their home turf.
In reply, Somerset struggled to contain the visitors, being bowled out for 269 in 39.2 overs. Tom Lammonby top-scored with 68, but wickets fell regularly. Tom Aspinwall and George Balderson were particularly effective with the ball, taking four wickets apiece, with figures of 4-42 and 4-58 respectively, sealing a comprehensive Lancashire win.

Somerset head coach Jason Kerr acknowledged the challenge posed by Jennings and Flintoff’s partnership, saying, “We didn’t get it right with the ball today, although you have to give great credit to Keaton Jennings and Rocky Flintoff for the partnership they produced. Sometimes when bowlers are on the receiving end to that extent it can affect their minds and there was some scrambled thinking at times.”
Kerr also highlighted the inexperience within the squad, noting the added pressure of playing in front of enthusiastic crowds and the impact of injuries throughout the season. He expressed optimism for the upcoming County Championship campaign, mentioning players' return from injury and the possibility of new signings.
Early resistance came from Matty Hurst, who contributed 47 runs in an opening stand of 83 with Jennings before Somerset’s off-spinner Archie Vaughan made breakthroughs. However, the momentum swung strongly in Lancashire’s favour as Jennings and Flintoff unleashed aggressive hitting, dominating the latter part of the innings.
Highlights included Flintoff’s maiden List A century, celebrated with a jubilant leap reminiscent of his father, Andrew Flintoff’s famous batting style. The pair’s assault left Somerset’s bowlers struggling, conceding 289 runs in the last 25 overs.
Somerset’s chase faltered early with both openers leg-before wicket by Aspinwall. Despite Lammonby’s determined 68 from 58 balls, including 10 boundaries, Somerset were unable to maintain the required run rate of over 10 runs per over as wickets continued to fall.
Ben Church showed glimpses of potential with an aggressive 24, but overall, Somerset were comprehensively outplayed in all areas on a challenging day at the crease. Their defeat means they finish bottom of the group, concluding a tough Metro Bank One-Day Cup campaign.
