Fireworks and Fundraising: St Margaret’s Hospice to Light Up Taunton Racecourse

A new family-friendly event is set to light up the skies above Taunton this November, as St Margaret’s Hospice Care hosts its first ever Fireworks Night at Taunton Racecourse.

Taking place on Saturday 8 November, the evening will feature a spectacular display curated by Sonic Fireworks, the award-winning pyrotechnics company known for their choreographed shows set to music. Alongside the display, visitors can enjoy food stalls, merchandise, free parking, and a great community atmosphere – all in support of local hospice care.

This year marks the 45th anniversary of St Margaret’s Hospice, and the Fireworks Night is one of several events designed to celebrate the occasion and raise vital funds. Organisers are expecting around 3,000 attendees and are currently putting out a call for local volunteers to help bring the event to life.

Merle Harrison-Croft, Events Manager at the hospice, said: “We’re so excited to be hosting this event for the first time. But to make it truly special, we need a strong team of volunteers to help welcome guests, sell merchandise, marshal car parks and ensure everything runs smoothly. Every role plays a part in supporting our patients and their families.”

Volunteers will receive a free ticket to the event, along with a food and drink voucher and free parking as a thank-you for their time. Those interested can sign up via the hospice website or by emailing [email protected].

Discounted tickets are on sale online until 5 November, priced at £9 for adults and £5 for children. On-the-night prices will be £12 and £6 respectively. All proceeds from ticket sales will go directly to the hospice’s work supporting patients with life-limiting illnesses across Somerset.

Each year, St Margaret’s supports nearly 5,000 people with specialist medical and emotional care, much of it delivered at home by their five community nursing teams. From a small fundraiser in 1980 that raised £400, the hospice has grown into a £15 million operation supported by over 900 volunteers and 31 charity shops.

Whether it’s a donation, a shopping trip to one of their stores, or lending a hand at Fireworks Night, every contribution helps. As the hospice marks its sapphire anniversary, this new community event offers a chance to celebrate, reflect, and support a cause close to many hearts in Somerset.
