Firefighters Honoured for Decades of Dedicated Service at Tidworth Ceremony

Dozens of firefighters and rescue personnel were celebrated for their longstanding commitment and exceptional bravery at a special awards ceremony held in Tidworth.

On Friday, May 9, the Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service convened at the Tidworth Garrison Theatre to honor staff members who have dedicated 20, 30, and even 40 years of service. The event also highlighted individuals awarded the Chief Fire Officer’s Commendations for extraordinary acts beyond their duty.

Distinguished guests presenting the awards included His Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant of Wiltshire, Dame Sarah Troughton DCVO, and His Majesty’s Deputy Lieutenant of Dorset, Colonel Terry Canham DL. They were accompanied by the High Sheriffs of Dorset and Wiltshire, Callum Bremner JP and Martin Nye respectively, along with Chief Constable Catherine Roper of Wiltshire Police.

In addition to service milestone awards, Long Service and Good Conduct medals and clasps were presented to dedicated personnel from across the service.

Chief Fire Officer Andy Cole described the ceremony as a crucial moment not only to celebrate the achievements of firefighters but also to acknowledge the vital support from their families and employers.

“Our awards ceremony is a key event for the entire Service, allowing us to publicly recognize the dedication and accomplishments of our colleagues throughout the organisation,” Cole stated.

He continued, “It’s equally important to express our gratitude to the families and friends whose support underpins our staff’s work, and to acknowledge the employers who enable their employees to serve as on-call firefighters. Their contributions are fundamental to our success.”
