Firefighters Cut Door to Rescue Trapped Casualty in Somerset Crash

A single-vehicle crash in Emborough, near Wells, Somerset, resulted in one person being trapped inside their car this afternoon (November 1). Firefighters from Shepton Mallet and Wells fire stations responded promptly, arriving at the scene around 3:21 pm.

To safely extract the trapped adult, crews utilized hydraulic cutting equipment to remove the vehicle’s door. A second casualty sustained minor injuries and was described as “walking wounded.” Both individuals received immediate medical treatment from paramedics at the scene.

The Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service declared the incident resolved by 5:01 pm, after ensuring the vehicle was made safe. Responsibility for the scene was then handed over to the police.

A spokesperson for the fire service said: “Two fire engines attended this single-vehicle road traffic collision at Emborough. On arrival, one adult was still trapped inside the vehicle. Our crews used hydraulic cutters to remove the door and access the casualty. Another person sustained minor injuries but was able to walk. Both were treated on site, and the vehicle was secured before the incident was handed over to the police.”
