Fire Service Responds to Severe Blaze at ‘Blaze Away’ Shop in Yeovil

A major fire severely damaged a building above the shop named Blaze Away on Beer Street in Yeovil on Monday, July 28. The incident required the response of eight fire crews from across the South West, including teams from Taunton, Yeovil, Somerton, Wincanton, Sherborne, Beaminster, Street, and Crewkerne.

The fire service received the first reports of the fire at approximately 11:45 am. Firefighters deployed multiple resources to fight the blaze, including six breathing apparatus sets, four hose reel jets, three safety jets, four thermal imaging cameras, and an aerial ladder. Their efforts successfully brought the fire under control.

On Tuesday, July 29, the Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that the building sustained significant damage, with approximately 50% of the first floor and roof space affected by fire. Smoke damage extended throughout the entire building, and a neighboring property also experienced minor smoke damage.

While the cause of the fire is still under investigation, officials have reported that no serious injuries occurred during the incident.
