Firefighters swiftly brought under control a blaze at the Clarence Park Bowling Club in Weston-super-Mare, with investigators believing the fire to be accidental in origin.
Local councillor Mike Bell shared details of the incident on his Facebook page, reporting that the fire occurred on Thursday night and resulted in damage to some trees as well as the destruction of a wooden hut belonging to the bowling club.
Councillor Bell praised the quick action of a vigilant resident and the Avon Fire & Rescue Service for promptly responding to the emergency, which helped prevent the situation from escalating.

He added, “Council officers have contacted the Bowling Club and are committed to restoring the affected area as soon as possible. Given the current dry and sun-soaked conditions, any use of fire in our public parks is highly irresponsible and could have led to a far more serious incident.”
A spokesperson from Avon Fire and Rescue Service provided further information to Somerset Live, confirming that two crews from Weston-super-Mare were called to the scene at 12:45am on Friday, 14 August, following reports of a fire on Clarence Road North.
Upon arrival, firefighters found the blaze affecting a shed, nearby trees, and a tent. They extinguished the fire safely, with no injuries reported.
The cause of the fire is thought to be accidental and remains under assessment.
