A devastating fire swept through a property in Bath’s Larkhall area on the evening of December 7, only to reignite an hour after being initially extinguished, prompting evacuations of nearby homes.
The blaze began around 7:30 pm at a ground-floor property on Eden Terrace. One occupant managed to escape the burning building and was treated at the scene by ambulance crews.
Firefighters from Bath, Hicks Gate, and Kingswood stations quickly battled the flames, bringing the fire under control by 10:34 pm. However, at approximately 11:22 pm, crews were summoned back—including personnel from Radstock fire station—after the fire reignited in the property’s roof.

Due to the renewed threat, neighbouring residents were evacuated as a precaution, though their homes did not sustain any damage. Firefighters used ladders, including the Turn Table Ladder, coupled with high-pressure hoses and breathing apparatus to contain the blaze externally.
Fire crews remained vigilant throughout the night, staying on-site until 5:46 am the following day to monitor for hotspots and prevent further flare-ups.
The cause of the fire remains unknown, with a full investigation forthcoming.
An Avon Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson detailed the response: “On 7 December at 7:30 pm, crews from Bath, Hicks Gate, and Kingswood were called to a house fire on Eden Terrace, Bath. Upon arrival, the property was well alight on the ground floor. Eight firefighters entered wearing breathing apparatus, using high-pressure hose reels and covering jets to extinguish the fire. Fans and thermal imaging cameras helped clear smoke and identify hotspots. Police and ambulance were also present. One casualty self-rescued and received treatment. Crews left at 10:34 pm, with a reinspection planned for midnight. At 11:22 pm, the roof reignited, prompting a recall of crews from Bath, Kingswood, Hicks Gate, and Radstock. Ladders, including the Turn Table Ladder, were used for external firefighting. Neighbours were evacuated but remained unharmed. Crews stayed until 5:46 am monitoring the scene. The cause is currently unknown, and investigations are ongoing.”
