An evening out at The Cork pub in Bath took an unexpected turn when a garden umbrella suddenly caught fire on Friday night. Around 8:30 pm on May 9, firefighters from Bath fire station responded swiftly after receiving multiple emergency calls about the blaze.
The fire caused visible black smoke and flames to rise from the pub’s beer garden, prompting staff to evacuate patrons for their safety. A spokesperson from Avon Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that a single umbrella was the source of the fire, which is believed to have started accidentally.
Fire crews used a high-pressure hose reel jet to extinguish the flames, managing to bring the situation under control within approximately 15 minutes. Thankfully, no injuries were reported.
