A kitchen fire broke out at a flat in Somerset when food was left unattended on a ceramic hob. The incident occurred just before 6 p.m. on Friday, June 5, at a property in Warrens Close, Bruton.
Emergency services responded swiftly, with three fire engines dispatched from Castle Cary, Wincanton, and Shepton Mallet. Smoke was reported coming from a first-floor window, prompting immediate action.
A spokesperson for the Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that the fire was minor, causing smoke and slight damage only to the food and cookware. “Once crews gained entry to the flat, they identified the source as food left on the hob. The damage was minimal, and the fire was brought under control by approximately 10 p.m.,” they said.
