Firefighters responded promptly to a fire at the Clarence Park Bowling Club in Weston-super-Mare, which is believed to have been accidental. The incident occurred late on Thursday night and caused damage to a wooden hut, surrounding trees, and a nearby tent.
Local councillor Mike Bell shared details of the fire on his Facebook page, commending a vigilant local resident and the swift action of the Avon Fire & Rescue Service for swiftly bringing the blaze under control. He noted that council officers have contacted the bowling club and intend to restore the affected area as soon as possible.
Councillor Bell also emphasised the risks of using fire in public parks during the current dry and sun-soaked conditions, describing such behaviour as irresponsible and warning that it could have resulted in a far more serious incident.
