Filming of BBC Crime Thriller ‘A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder’ Resumes in Somerset Town

Filming for the BBC crime thriller “A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder” has resumed in the Somerset town of Axbridge after a one-week pause. The cast and crew are back on location, transforming the town for several days as they continue shooting the series.

The show stars Emma Myers, known for her roles in “Wednesday” and “A Minecraft Movie,” and follows Pip, a young woman determined to solve the mystery of a local girl’s suspicious death. The first series received mixed reviews. The Guardian described it as having “a Nancy Drew vibe” with moments reminiscent of Enid Blyton, while The New Statesman likened it to “Midsomer Murders with fewer character actors, more mobile phones, and a slightly more convincing plot.”

During filming, several areas in Axbridge, including the Square, the Old Station, and Chestnut Avenue, will experience parking restrictions until Wednesday, May 14. Town Clerk Vicky Brice asked residents to be patient amid the disruption, saying, “The film company will be managing these parking restrictions. We do appreciate that it does make things more difficult for these few days, but we hope you will join us in making the company welcome, enjoy the occasion, and help promote our lovely town.”

While a release date for the second series has yet to be announced, the first season is available to stream on BBC iPlayer. Somerset’s picturesque scenery and charming towns have long attracted film and television productions. Nearby Bath, for example, has hosted shoots for popular titles such as “Bridgerton,” “Les Misérables,” and “The Duchess” starring Keira Knightley. In 2023 alone, “Bridgerton” filming contributed an estimated £3.4 million to Bath’s local economy.
