Ferrets Stolen in Heartbreaking Theft from Somerset Racer’s Shed

Thirty-two ferrets were stolen from an outbuilding in Nynehead, Somerset, leaving their owner devastated. Chris Potter, who owns a total of 39 ferrets for racing and show purposes, discovered the break-in after returning home from work.

“When I got back to my mum and dad’s house, I immediately checked on the ferrets,” Chris said. “All the hatches had been opened, and 32 ferrets were missing. The only reason some were left behind was because my dog started barking.”

The theft, reported to Avon and Somerset Police, is under active investigation. Chris has offered a £500 reward for the safe return of the ferrets, animals he has raised not only for racing but also for charitable causes, raising hundreds of pounds.

“These ferrets are quite unique in color, and it’s heartbreaking because I use them extensively for shows and racing events to support charities,” he explained. “There aren’t many people with ferrets like mine, which makes them distinctive.”

Chris believes the stolen ferrets are still somewhere in the South West, possibly being sold illegally. He urges anyone with information or who spots the ferrets to contact him at 01823 662126.

A police statement confirmed the timeline: “Between 6pm on Tuesday, January 20, and 5:15pm on Wednesday, January 21, an outbuilding was forcibly entered in Nynehead and dozens of ferrets were taken. We urge anyone with information or relevant footage from CCTV, doorbell cameras, or dashcams to contact us on 101, quoting reference number 5226019120.”
